It Is Not About Teaching And It Is Not About The Children
It is dangerous for you to live in the past when teaching was a vocation and the selfless schoolmarm arrived in rural Mayberry to teach the country children. The days of teachers caring about teaching and caring about the children are dead.
Just as public employee unions are not about working, the "Teachers Union" is not about teaching. It is all about power, salaries and pensions. Teaching is just an annoying distraction for nine months out of the year.
I'll bet you think I'm just biased or angry and making a terrible allegation. You probably think that I am being very unfair and exaggerating. If so, consider this.
If you are still living on the fantasy-island side of the Berwyn tracks, listen to the video for your wake-up call. It is a video clip from the farewell speech given by outgoing NEA (National "Education" Association) General Counsel Bob Chanin.
After 41 years as the nations top "education" lawyer, Chanin closes his last NEA Representative Assembly as general counsel with a stirring address to more than 8,000 members of this "teachers" union explaining that the welfare and education of the children has NEVER been a priority and that it is all about "power and money". Also, listen carefully to the teachers response to his speech.
Now, after listening to that speech, take virtually any ruling Berwyn politician of the last 50 years (Shaughnessy, Marzullo, Stillo, Lovero - any of them - its just a shill game) and put them on that same podium as if they were speaking to Berwyn's city employees and union members. Now make a few minor revisions to Chanin's speech such as changing the word students to Berwyn residents. You see? There is no difference. There never will be.
